SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia is a non-governmental social development organisation that has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s needs and concerns since 1982. Focussing its work on children without parental care and children in families in difficult circumstances, the organisation has a wide range of programmes, which include: Children’s Villages, Supervised Independent Living Arrangements, Small Group Homes,, Family & Community Strengthening Programmes, Kindergartens, Lower, Upper Basic and High Schools, a Medical  Clinic, Vocational Training Centres,  Youth Empowerment project, Green Economy and Education Project,  and a Monetizing Waste Project.

SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia GENDER EQUALITY FIRST PROJECT is looking for qualified suitable candidates for the position of SOCIAL WORKERS(2 positions- Basse and Bansang)  , 

SOCIAL WORKERS(2 positions- Basse and Bansang)

The Social Worker will take part in the day-to-day implementation of Gender Equality First project in Basse Location. S/he will be responsible to improve the approaches of community and household on gender equality, capacity building of local partners (Village Development Committees, Village Support Groups) and supporting them to undertake their responsibilities at the village level. Through regular family visits, s/he will support/guide and counsel families to ensure improved knowledge, understanding and practices on gender equality and mainstreaming in rural Gambia. S/he will also have to organise various group activities for the participants  and communities related to child rights and childcare issues and build capacities of community partners and volunteers to offer similar support. Working closely with the community, the Social Worker will report and be under the supervision of the Project Coordinator.

Position Demands

• Bachelors degree in Social Work or related field; Community development, social sciences  
• Minimum two(2) years experience in field work 

• Knowledge in gender equality and mainstreaming
• Responsible, resilient and resourceful personality with strong humanistic values (e.g., equality, diversity)

• Understanding on how traditions, culture, beliefs and customs influence human development
• Fluency in English and at least one local language.
• Must be computer literate and conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power point applications, internet, etc. . 
• High level of communication, negotiation and networking skills
• High level of professional standards and ethics
