APPLICATIONS ARE HEREBY INVITED FROM SUITABLE QUALIFIED GAMBIANS FOR THE FOLLOWING VACANT POSITION OF PROGRAMME OFFICER—CONFLICT PREVENTION/EARLY WARNING AT THE WEST AFRICA NETWORK FOR PEACEBUILDING (WANEP-THE GAMBIA)
Recognizing the contagious nature of conflict has been instrumental in establishing the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding WANEP–The Gambia. WANEP-The Gambia is a legally registered non-profit organization created in August 2003. It has a membership of 30 civil society organizations spread across the country and various mandates ranging from peacebuilding, conflict resolution, human rights, and development. WANEP-The Gambia maintains focal points in the five regions, coordinating and directly implementing programmes and activities with the communities. The growing need for conflict prevention initiatives for sustainable peace and development confirms WANEP- The Gambia’s presence and relevance.
VACANCY TYPE: PROGRAMME OFFICER—CONFLICT
PREVENTION/EARLY WARNING (FULL TIME)
REPORT TO: National Early Warning System (NEWS) Manager
a. QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants shall possess:
∙ Master’s degree in political science, Public Administration, Development Studies or related field in the social sciences.
∙ Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in an NGO/public /private institution. Having NGO experience will be an added advantage
b. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE
- Must be honest and confidential
- Experience in issues of peace and security
- Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) ∙ Ability to manage various project
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good organizational and time management skills
- He/she must possess excellent communication and reporting skills
c. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide administrative and logistical support to project activities
- Support regular programme progress reporting, and planning
- Prepare weekly highlights, situational reports and monthly bulletins ∙ Tabulate and update the ECOWARN and AU CEW platforms
- Manage and document all project trainings, seminars, workshop, etc ∙ Assist in drafting policy briefs as at when needed
- Provide secretariat support for meetings, including drafting the agenda, and drafting meeting minutes
- Provide support to NEWS Manager in the implementation of project activities ∙ Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of project implementation in target areas with reference to the overall project plan of operation
- Other duties as assigned by the National Network Coordinator or designated representative
