BACKGROUND
In fulfillment of its obligations under the Government White Paper, the Government conducted extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including victims, civil society, and experts. As a result, the Victims Reparations Act was passed in December 2023.
The Reparations Commission was created by Section 11 of the Victims Reparations Act, 2023, with the mandate of providing transformative reparations to victims of gross human right violations during the tenure of office of the former regime. Commissioners were sworn-in in April 2025 and the Secretariat is now fully operational managing the daily administrative functions of the Commission. The Secretariat is located on the OIC Highway, at the Logix Building next to the Logix Petrol Station in Kotu.
