Job purpose:
The Retail Maintenance / Operations Technician ensures that preventative and corrective maintenance is carried out with the view of reducing damages in the operations of the company.
Main responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance on fuel dispensers, pumps, tanks, pipelines, and other petrol station equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) schedules to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
- Test and calibrate fuel monitoring systems, leak detection systems, and vapor recovery units.
Facility & Infrastructure Upkeep:
- Maintain and repair petrol station infrastructure, including canopies, lighting, signage, and forecourt areas.
- Ensure proper functioning of car wash systems (if applicable), air/water dispensers, and other customer-facing equipment.
- Monitor and maintain underground storage tanks (USTs) and associated piping for leaks or corrosion.
Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all company safety policies, OESA standards, and environmental regulations (NEA, API, etc.).
- Conduct regular safety inspections, including fire suppression systems, emergency shutoffs, and spill containment measures.
- Ensure compliance with company, state, and federal regulations regarding fuel storage, handling, and dispensing.
- Respond to and mitigate fuel spills or leaks in accordance with emergency response protocols.
Operations Support:
- Assist in inventory management of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or installations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment logs.
- Support station staff in resolving technical issues affecting operations.
Emergency Response & On-Call Duties:
- Be available for after-hours emergency repairs and breakdowns as part of an on-call rotation.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures, alarms, or safety incidents.
Required experience:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical field or related
- 2-3 Years of experience in similar role
- A holder of a technical qualification (e.g., GTTI) with at least 3 years post-qualification experience
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience in petrol station maintenance, oil & gas operations, or related industrial maintenance.
- Knowledge of fuel dispensing systems, USTs, and forecourt equipment.
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair guides.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple station locations.
- Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, HAZMAT, API) are a plus.
