SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia supports children and young people who have lost, or are at risk of losing, parental care and works with families and communities to help children grow with care, protection and strong relationships. Position summary

The position requires a person to be able to teach hairdressing & Cosmetology modules at the Youth Employability project. He/she will address the hairdressing and Cosmetology skills needs of the young people by developing their capacity. Coach, mentor and instruct the students. Supervise, counsel, motivate and assess the students. To create opportunities for exchange of trainee’s experience with others. Laisse regularly with SOS projects in The Gambia. Build a strong link with those involved with welfare and educational, social, physical, emotional development of the youth. Represent SOS if required and ensure the maintenance of optimum relations at all levels. Explore viable opportunities to work with other Literacy providers in the country.

Position Demand

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree or higher national diploma in Hairdressing and Cosmetology
  • At least three years’ experience in teaching young people and adults 
  • Must have good command of English Language & Legible hand writing skills
  • Good background in phonetics
  • Possess excellent analytical and report writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be patience
  • Must be flexible and have the capacity to carry out  both training and administrative functions
  • The ability to fluently speak and understand two local languages will be an advantage.
  • Must be ICT literate
  • Must be creative in exploring various training methods to facilitate adult learning
  • Must be hardworking, reliable, punctual, and willing to assist with additional duties as required.
  • Must be NAAQA registered.

Requirements

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree or higher national diploma in Hairdressing and Cosmetology
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and professional English-language correspondence.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • A professional, courteous, and welcoming demeanour, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to child safeguarding, the SOS Code of Conduct, and the four SOS values.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a school or educational institution.
  • Knowledge of SOS Children’s Villages systems and organisational structure.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating support staff.
  • Familiarity with filing systems and records management best practices.
