SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia is a non-governmental social development organisation that has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s needs and concerns since 1982. Focussing its work on children without parental care and children in families in difficult circumstances, the organisation has a wide range of programmes, which include: Children’s Villages, Youth Facilities, Family Strengthening Programmes, Kindergartens, Schools, a Mother and Child Clinic, Vocational Training Centres, Youth Empowerment projects, a Community Strengthening Through Green Economy and Education Project, a Monetising Waste Project and a Gender Equality Project

SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia is looking for a suitably qualified candidate for the position of a Project Coordinator for the Gender Equality First Project based in Basse Programme Location.

Position summary:

The Project Coordinator is responsible for overall team management, coordinating project activities, ensuring results, developing action plans, identifying corrective measures, drafting reports, budget management, and donor compliance. The Project Coordinator will have significant gender equality, grant management, and monitoring & evaluation expertise and will be responsible for representing the project at local and regional platforms.

The Project Coordinator works under a matrix reporting structure to the National Programme Development Manager and the Children’s Village Manager in Basse, with day-to-day supervision by the Basse Programme Location Manager.

General aim of the position

To lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Gender Equality First Project, ensuring the achievement of project goals, compliance with donor requirements, and sustainable impact for women and youth in rural Gambia.

Lead the planning of the Gender Equality project in line with the organisation’s mission, standards, policies, and strategies.
Coordinate the implementation of Gender Equality project activities.

Build positive relationships with the intervention communities, local authorities, and partners.

Build a strong network of partner organisations.

Build a strong programme team and manage it as per SOS requirements and expectations.

Establish and maintain mechanisms for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project.

Contribute to the realization of the rights of children, as well as the vision, mission, and values of the organisation.

Carry out in-depth situational analysis and develop annual plans with concrete SMART activities based on approved project documents and the gender equality framework.

Implement project activities with partners according to objectives, actions, and time frames outlined in the approved project proposal.

Ensure compliance with the organisation’s standards, policies, and procedures, including those of the

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and SOS Finland.

Support capacity-building of participating families and community-based partners towards self-reliance.

Build and manage positive relations with local government authorities, community leadership, and like-minded organisations.

Build a strong programme team through effective performance management and capacity building.

Ensure prudent financial management and administration of the project in line with organizational and donor policies.

Establish and maintain robust monitoring and evaluation plans and systems for ongoing data collection, self-evaluation, and external evaluations.

Represent SOS in local, national, and regional processes, meetings, and structures.

Document and share good practices and lessons learned to support organisational learning.

Keep track of gender equality and child rights issues, as well as current social development trends relevant to the organisation’s mission.

Qualifications/Competencies required:

A Master’s Degree in Project Management or related field; Development Studies, Social Sciences,

Management, and Gender.

Minimum of two (2) years of experience in managing related projects.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and implement complex projects.

Ability to manage a diverse project team.

Ability to mainstream gender in project implementation.

Strong expertise in grant management, monitoring & evaluation, and donor compliance.

Experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and working with local government and community structures.

Excellent planning, financial management, and report-writing skills.

Strong communication, negotiation, and representation abilities.

In-depth understanding of child rights, gender equality, and community-based development approaches.
