Since the beginning of 2008, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been carrying out a programme on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) to strengthen the capacities of police structures in Africa. The programme is active in various African countries as well as on regional and continental level, supporting police institutions by providing expert advice, implementing training, providing infrastructure and equipment, and strengthening management and organisational capacities. The Country Component in The Gambia is part of the programme since July 2019 and works together with the Gambia Police Force (GPF). The Country Component aims to strengthen 1) administrative capacities of the GPF, especially its Human Resource Management, 2) its Public Relations activities including community policing activities, as well as 3) its complaints management.
