Relaunched in 2024, Jarga stands as a beacon of luxury and craftsmanship, proudly designing and creating leather handbags and accessories in The Gambia.
After decades of European expertise, we took a bold step in 2019 to bring our manufacturing home to The Gambia, setting new standards in local production and the advancement of artisanal workers.
At the heart of Jarga are sisters Jankeh and Saffie Njie, who carry a legacy of cultural richness and personal passion. Raised in Kolbotn, Norway, their upbringing was a vibrant blend of Gambian heritage and Norwegian upbringing.
Their frequent visits to Gambia inspired a deep appreciation for the elegance and sophistication of traditional fashion—a luxury that felt both unique and intimately connected to their roots.
The name Jarga pays homage to their great-grandfather, a distinguished historian and entrepreneur from the early 1800s, who left an indelible mark on the Njie family and Gambian history.
His legacy of sharing wisdom and fostering community remains a guiding principle for Jarga today.
