Established in 1999, the University of The Gambia (UTG) is a growing and dynamic university committed to supporting the socio-economic and environmental transformation of The Gambia and the sub-region through relevant and high-quality education to respond to the Gambia’s National Development Agenda, the African Union Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
UTG offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including doctorate programmes in key areas central to the national, regional, and continental development needs of Africa. With several campuses in Banjul, Kanifing, Brikama, Faraba and Farafenni, UTG provides access to higher education to about 7,000 students, including international students every year.
Background
The Internal Audit Unit was established by the University Governing Council to assist the University Management in fulfilling corporate objectives by ensuring that resources are effectively, efficiently, and economically utilized. It aims to identify, avoid, and mitigate risks to add value and improve University operations. This unit provides independent, objective assurances and consulting services through a systematic, disciplined approach. Its goal is to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of internal control systems, risk management, and governance processes while upholding core audit values. The Internal Audit Department supports University Management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees by conducting independent and objective reviews. It reports findings to the Audit Committee and relevant administrative and academic officers, facilitating corrective actions or improvements to maintain public confidence.
