WasteAid has been active in The Gambia since 2015, working with local communities, entrepreneurs, and government institutions supporting waste management initiatives.
The focus of WasteAid’s work has been on capacity building, training, and fostering networks to keep resources in the loop for the benefit of Gambian society.
The Dennakuwo Circular Economy Network, established in 2022 and funded by CIWM, has grown to include around 300 members, including entrepreneurs, innovators, government officials, research institutions, and civil society organizations. The network serves as a platform for collaboration and innovation towards a sustainable and circular economy in The Gambia.
The second Waste to Use Challenge in The Gambia focuses on finding innovative solutions in textiles, plastics, and organics/agribusiness. Its aim is to support young entrepreneurs whose businesses will divert waste from landfills, and create livelihoods for those in poverty and create greener Gambia.
