Project Information: This Early Market Engagement (EME) relates to Component 2B: Marine Jetty Construction and Shoreline Protection Works – Kunta Kinteh Island and Albreda under the Tourism Diversification and Resilience in The Gambia Project. Through this engagement, the project team seeks to inform the market and obtain feedback from experienced marine and coastal construction contractors regarding the proposed works and execution considerations.

Project Objective: Infrastructure support for the diversification and resilience of the tourism sector.

Project Overview – The Kunta Kinteh Island and Albreda project involves the construction of marine access infrastructure and shoreline protection works along the River Gambia to improve access to the historic sites at Albreda and Kunta Kinteh Island. The works include construction of a 160 m reinforced concrete jetty at Albreda for larger tourist passenger vessels and a 60 m jetty at Kunta Kinteh Island to serve smaller visitor vessels. Kunta Kinteh Island is located approximately 3.2 km offshore from Albreda and has limited access to utilities and construction facilities, requiring careful logistical planning. The project will also include heritage-sensitive shoreline protection works, such as stonewall, rock revetment and boardwalk, around the island’s approximately 300 m perimeter. Detailed engineering designs are in their final stages of completion, with procurement expected to commence shortly and works anticipated to begin late 2026.

Participation – This engagement is open to experienced international and regional contractors with demonstrated expertise in marine and coastal construction contractors regarding the proposed works and execution considerations.
