Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Verifies internal compliance with regulations, detection and investigation of fraud, evaluation of statistics.
- Investigating and monitoring staff compliance on site and in the back office.
- Preparing, processing and cross-relating toll collection statistics to find empirical evidence of malpractice and fraud.
- The toll auditor works in full autonomy and reports directly to the Finance Manager.
Details of Tasks
Routine observations and controls
- Prepares detailed audit plans and schedules
- Carries out open and covered observations as directed by the toll manager. This will include e.g. video surveillance and observation of a specific toll lane or a specific employee.
- Observes if work is carried out according to the procedures
- Identifies cases where investigations should be started
- Carries out routine controls (e.g. random cash counting and checking of funds in lanes or Point of Sales)
- Evaluation and Processing of Toll Collection Statistics
- Creates reports from toll plaza statistics (e.g. showing toll lane activity, toll collector performance, discrepancies between bank counting and toll collector declaration, etc.)
- Evaluates all available toll collection data to find evidence of malpractice and fraud.
- Post processes (including graphical representations) and correlates data to make such frauds visible
- Statistical analysis of equipment performance
- Investigation of Abnormal Situations
- Under-cover investigations. This will include e.g. posing as a customer carrying out certain transactions and analysing the results;
- Following up on irregularities found during the observations;
- Proactive compliance checks. This can include the deliberate creation of an irregularity and the verification if the affected staff handle and report the case properly.
- Securing and documenting all evidence found. Presenting and endorsing this evidence in legal proceedings.
- Updating of Toll Operation Procedures
- Observe and detect if a procedure or manual needs to be changed or corrected
- Drafts proposed changes of a procedure or manual and discusses the case in the team
- Follow up any proposed changes to ensure that they occur, are implemented by the staff and lead to the intended improvement.
- Other Expectations of the Job
This job calls for exceptional integrity. The conduct of toll auditors is expected to be of utmost correctness. Slight digressions from the strict rule, as they may be tolerated with other staff for the benefit of a good work atmosphere can not be accepted with the Tolling Controller.
Working Environment
Normal office environment with regular field work.

Work Experience 2 years work experience of which at least 1 year in an audit department.
Skills & Abilities Proficient in Accounting practices; Good skills in MS Excel; Good analytical skills; Basic mathematical skills (familiarity with basic statistic calculations like standard derivations and distributions, plotting and analysing of bell curves, equation solving)
