Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Traffic Control Room is the centralised location where the operator monitors and manages traffic on the bridge and accesses. The Traffic Control Room operator:
- Operates the traffic management system (CCTV, counting loops, etc.)
- Monitors traffic and interventions the bridge
- Ensures that the road is free from hazards to allow safe and efficient flow of traffic;
- Provides real time traffic information ensuring the utilisation of the bridge is optimized;
- Monitors security aspects for the Operation and Maintenance Centre and technical shelters;
- Ensures the safety and efficiency of the bridge to the motorists and general public;
- Minimises the disruption to traffic in the event of incident affecting safety by providing a rapid and effective response.
Details of Tasks
- Monitors and logs on the traffic management system the interventions and status of the bridge;
- Uses the traffic systems and information provided by patrollers to identify problem areas and faults, and based on established procedures take necessary steps to update the information on databases, to initiate actions to rectify these problems and faults and to broadcast this information via the established channels of communication;
- Implements the appropriate traffic management plans to reduce the effect of incidents to users of the bridge and to the safety of responding personnel;
- Advises the appropriate emergency services (such as Police, Fire Brigade, Breakdown Services, National Road Authority, TBC Management) of accidents and hazards and report and monitoring follow up action;
- Requests for various teams to be dispatched on site;
- Provides appropriate training to newly appointed Patrollers on an “as need” basis;
- Performs first level maintenance and/or liaising with other parties both internal and external for the rectification of equipment and other system faults;
- Provides real time information on road conditions to senior management;
- Provides miscellaneous assistance on an as-demanded basis;
- Assists with the promotion of the activities of TBC to the general public and dignitaries through formal tours and lectures;
- Participates in ongoing training requirements and simulation exercises to ensure competencies, skills as well as knowledge of procedures are regularly updated and demonstrable;
Other Expectations of the job
- May be required to stay beyond shift hours until a qualified Traffic Control Room operator becomes available.
- Required to care for and properly manage all materials, supplies, stocks and inventories under his/her supervision;
- Required to maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment of the assigned workstation.

Age Range 25 to 40 Years Old
Education 2 years College Degree ideally in Electronics
Work Experience 3 years traffic monitoring work, preferably console, or related video surveillance work
Skills & Abilities Computer skills and literacy, knowledge of road network, traffic and incident management preferred
Personal Characteristics Ability to evaluate situations, identify and rectify potential problems and take the necessary action using only broad guidelines and established procedures
Ability to reason logically and practically during emergency and stressful situations and based on preset guidelines respond to the situation.
Effective verbal communication using telephone. Be able to effectively communicate with all levels of staff within TBC and external organizations (National Road Authority, Fire brigade, police, ambulance, etc.)
