6 questions to expect in any job interview

By Simon F. Mendy,

You can never predict for sure which questions you’ll be asked in a job interview. However, these six questions are guaranteed to come up in most (if not all) job interviews — regardless of your industry, your experience level, and job type.
At the top of this list is “Tell me about yourself”. The interviewer’s ultimate goal is to find out enough about you to decide if you’re a good fit for the job opening that he or she is interviewing you for. So, this question is an opportunity for you to emphasize the points that you most want this potential employer to know about you. Always try a concise, enthusiastic response that summarizes your big-picture fit for the job. This is a good opportunity to share some information about your proudest achievements and goals.

If you have worked in a company before, expect this question: Why are you leaving your job?” or “Why did you leave your last job?” Interviewers ask this question because it produces highly relevant information. Potential employers will want to know if you were fired for poor performance, if you’re leaving because you can’t get along with your boss or if you actually left your “current” job five months ago, even though your résumé says you’re still there. Please give reasonable and truthful explanation for why you’re leaving or why you left – one that doesn’t badmouth former employers or make you sound like a problem –Keep in mind that employers may verify your answer from your former employer.

When you are going for an interview or applying for a job you need to give the interviewer compelling reasons for giving you the job and that starts with the basic question: Why do you want this job? Note that companies want to hire good people so that they will help the company succeed. The interviewer wants you to well explain why you have applied for and should be offered the job. Everyone likes to be flattered, so you can tell him or her why it’s a good company, what it is you like about the company. Example you can begin like: “This is a great company because………………..” Describe the challenges of the post and how you fit in. Give some examples if possible.

What do you expect to be doing in 5 or 10 years’ time? This is another question. Here the interviewer wants you to demonstrate that you have done your research on the career routes open to you within the organization; and so you should try to be more specific – not necessarily tying yourself down to a particular route, but showing that you have at least a general idea of where you want to go.

What salary range are you looking for? This question requires you to research the market rate for the type of job you’re applying for. With good research you will be able to ground your answer in real data and an understanding of what a reasonable range is. Do not give your potential employer the impression that money is your primary reason for applying for the job. If you are a fresher, you can go for answers like this…… Well to be honest salary is secondary thing for me because being a fresher I need more information about job and the responsibilities involved before we can begin to discuss salary; or as I am a fresher my goal is to get a job; as per my work and knowledge I will accept how much you offer.

Have you got any questions? At the end of a job interview, you are almost always asked if there are any questions you want to ask the employer before you leave. Here the employer is not looking for any specific kinds of things. But he or she would like to see how you respond. And it’s a big plus if you come up with something that shows you are thinking ahead about the job and / or the company. So ask relevant questions about the job and company and NOT about salary.
