Think Young Women (TYW) is a young feminist, non-profit organisation in The Gambia that was formed in 2010 and officially registered in 2011. The organisation seeks to inspire and assist girls and young women to achieve their individual needs and collective interests by developing their leadership skills and empowering them through capacity building, awareness raising, networking, and mentorship. Our vision is to create a transformative movement of young feminist leaders in The Gambia.
Our programmes champion transformational young women to learn, share their stories, and experiences, while inspiring them to move their ideas beyond local communities and national platforms, to an international scale. Emphasis is placed on nurturing and developing young women for local and global leadership, and building bridges and a network of solidarity, with experienced women leaders serving as mentors.
Since its inception, TYW has designed and implemented a wide range of programmes and activities
targeting girls and young women in all regions of The Gambia. Our work has significantly contributed to increased visibility and attention to issues like Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriages, other forms of Gender-Based Violence, Sexual and Reproductive Health of Women and Girls, the importance of women in politics and leadership, as well as transitional justice and the importance of women and girls’ participation in it. We have been a strong and unrelenting component of the growing youth movement to take charge and create a better world, where gender equality and equity are the order of the day.
