Duty Station: Caritas Gambia Head Office, Banjul, with occasional travel to project locations within The Gambia.

Job Purpose
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with donor and organizational financial policies, supporting budget management, and safeguarding the financial integrity of Caritas Gambia. The position contributes to effective financial stewardship, accountability, and transparency in the implementation of programs and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in accordance with Caritas Gambia policies and applicable accounting standards.
- Record all financial transactions and ensure proper classification of income and expenditure.
- Prepare and process payment vouchers, journal entries, and cash/bank transactions.
- Ensure all supporting documentation for financial transactions is complete and properly filed.
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
- Support the preparation of donor financial reports in accordance with donor requirements and deadlines.
- Reconcile bank accounts, cash accounts, and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements.
- Participate in the preparation of organizational and project budgets.
- Monitor budget utilization and provide regular variance analysis reports.
- Ensure expenditures are coded correctly and charged to the appropriate projects and budget lines.
- Manage cash flow requirements to ensure adequate liquidity for operational activities.
- Monitor bank balances and prepare cash forecasts.
- Verify and process staff advances and ensure timely retirement of advances.
- Ensure compliance with Caritas Gambia financial policies, donor regulations, statutory requirements, and internal control procedures.
- Ensure timely remittance of taxes and other statutory obligations.
- Support internal and external audit exercises and facilitate access to required financial records.
- Support inventory management processes and reconciliation.
- Provide financial guidance and support to project staff and budget holders.
- Promote best practices in financial management across the organization.
- Perform any other finance-related duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Management Team.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional accounting qualification (ACCA Level 2, or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant accounting and financial management experience.
Experience working with NGOs, faith-based organizations, or donor-funded projects is highly desirable.
Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation.

- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and quick book
- Knowledge of donor financial compliance requirements.

- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
