Gamswitch is expanding its software engineering function and seeks two (2) Assistant Software Developers to join its IT team. In this hands-on role, you will design, build, and maintain the software systems that power The Gambia’s national payment switch — writing production code, integrating APIs, and collaborating across operations, compliance, and product to keep our platforms reliable, secure, and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain software systems powering Gamswitch’s payment infrastructure across the full SDLC
- Develop and maintain Core Switch applications and RESTful APIs connecting payment channels and third-party systems
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate actively in peer code reviews
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; support UAT and release sign-off
- Monitor application health; investigate and resolve incidents and performance issues
- Work within CI/CD pipelines, maintain Git hygiene, and support containerized (Docker) workloads
- Collaborate with compliance, security, and operations teams to meet regulatory requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on, professional software development experience in a team environment
- Proficiency in one or more of: C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, PHP, or Go
- RESTful API design and integration including authentication patterns (OAuth 0, JWT, API keys)
- Relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and working knowledge of NoSQL (MongoDB/Redis)
- CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins), Git branching strategies, Docker/Compose
- Secure coding practices — OWASP Top 10 awareness, input validation, dependency scanning
- Experience in fintech, banking, or high-availability payment platforms is a significant advantage
