SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia is a non-governmental social development organisation that has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s needs and concerns since 1982. Focussing its work on children without parental care and children in families in difficult circumstances, the organisation has a wide range of programmes, which include: Children’s Villages, Supervised Independent Living Arrangements, Small Group Homes,, Family & Community Strengthening Programmes, Kindergartens, Lower, Upper Basic and High Schools, a Medical  Clinic, Vocational Training Centres,  Youth Empowerment project, Green Economy and Education Project,  and a Monetizing Waste Project.

SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia GENDER EQUALITY FIRST PROJECT is looking for qualified suitable candidates for the position of a Business Development Officer.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (Basse , Upper River Region)

The Business Development Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation and follow-up of all income generating related activities within the Gender Equality First project. S/he will be responsible to analyse the market and support the family and youth business development planning process. Through regular family/business site visits, s/he will support, guide and counsel project participants/beneficiaries to ensure they reach financial self-reliance. S/he will also have to organise various simple management trainings for the participants and build the capacities of community partners and volunteers to offer similar support. Working closely with the community and the project’s social workers, the Business Development Officer will report and be under the responsibility of the Project Coordinator for the Gender Equality First Project.

Position Demands

  • Diploma in business management or related field
  • Knowledge in gender equality and mainstreaming 
  • 3-5 years experience in designing income generating activities for gender equality projects, market analysis and managing community based micro-finance programmes.
  • Experience with basic financial management (develop simple business plans, monitor the implementation of IGAs and follow up issues with micro-finance institutions).
  • Facilitation/training skills in basic business management.
  • Fluency in English and at least one local language.
  • Must be computer literate and conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power point applications, internet, etc.
