About AVLO

The Association of Victim-Led Organisations (AVLO) is a Gambian non-profit organisation established in January 2024 to champion and represent the interests of victims of human rights violations during the era of former president and dictator Yahya Jammeh in the implementation of the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission, TRRC’s recommendations. AVLO is an alliance of local victim organisations and associations, including the African Network against Extrajudicial Killings and Enforced Disappearance, Gambia Centre for Victims of Human Rights Violation, Survivors of the Presidential Alternative Treatment, Fantanka, Solo Sandeng Foundation, Women’s Association for Victim Empowerment, Women in Leadership and Liberation, and Yelef Initiative. The organisation aims to advocate for and support victims and survivors of human rights violations in seeking justice and to receive reparations that are adequate, effective, prompt, and proportional to the gravity of the violations and harm the victims have suffered.

Job Description

AVLO is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Coordinator to provide secretarial, administrative, and project support to our team for six months, with possibility of extension. The selected applicant will serve as the liaison for the Alliance’s programmatic and administrative work, under the supervision of the Committee. Strong organisational abilities, attention to detail, and a high degree of professionalism are required for this position.

Core Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chairperson, the Coordinator shall:

Serve as secretary to the Committee
Administer and supervise the operations of the Alliance, including managing staff, and ensuring the alignment of the Alliance’s initiatives with its mission and goals.
Organise projects, programmes, and/or activities of the Alliance to ensure collaboration, effective communication, and efficient implementation.
Support in writing concept notes, project proposals, and project reports.
Develop strategic plans, policies, and procedures to support operational efficiency.
Ensure statutory and project obligations and reporting requirements are met and adhered to.
Oversee the development of a communication strategy, including advocacy campaigns and ensure their execution.
Oversee the financial management of AVLO operations.
Serve as primary liaison between member organisations, donors, partners, and other relevant stakeholders among other responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Applicants for this position are required to possess the following qualifications:
Education: a university degree in social sciences, community development, law, psychology, social work, political sciences, project management, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in project management, community development, transitional justice, human rights fields, or similar administrative or project-related roles.
Languages: fluent in English and at least 2 local languages.

Related Skills and Knowledge:
Proficiency in office administration software and equipment (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and stakeholders.
Knowledge of data analysis and reporting.
Previous organizing and planning experience for events.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Familiarity with secretarial and administrative procedures.
Effective time management, strong attention to detail, and accuracy of work.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
