Position summary
The catering Instructor will be responsible for the administration of the Catering Department. He/she will conduct catering classes, supervise, mentor and assess the students. Prepare and send the trainees for field work (attachment). Organize practical sessions. Support the catering initiatives of the students. Liaise regularly with projects in SOS Children’s Villages The Gambia National Association. Build strong link with partners for the empowerment of young people. Ensure the maintenance of optimum relations at all levels.
Position Demands
- A bachelor’s degree in Catering & Hotel Management or Higher Diploma in Catering & Hotel Management, Cooking & Pastry, Food and Beverage, Room Division or equivalent in Tourism and Hospitality Management or any other related discipline.
- Minimum of five years working experience in the hospitality industry.
- Ability to communicate and build networks with related institutions.
- Knowledge and experience in teaching Catering and Hotel Management.
- A keen diligent worker who is able to work under pressure.
- Ability to manage the department and work independently with minimum supervision.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as and when required.
- Must be ICT literate.
- Must be creative in exploring various training methods to facilitate learning.
- Must be experience in student attachment.
- Must be honest, hardworking, reliable, punctual, and willing to assist with additional duties as required.
- Must be registered with NAAQA.
Priority Tasks and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the Catering and Hotel Management Programme based on the curriculum.
- Teach theory and practice to students enrolled in the Catering and Hotel Management Programme.
- Promote and sustain trainees’ motivation throughout the training period
- Organize practical sessions.
- Counsel, advise and support the trainees throughout the training period.
- Provide catering services to others as may be requested
- Provide all logistics required for the course such as preparation and compilation of menus, preparation of budgets and collection of invoices for the required event/project programme.
- Develop and maintain a course outline for all relevant subjects of the programme.
- Construct and conduct general cooking lessons.
- To source for relevant materials and equipment for the department.
- Supervise the running of the catering department
- Train, mentor and coach the students on catering project initiatives
- To identify relevant Centres and make adequate arrangement for attachment of students.
- To visit and assess students during attachment.
- To monitor the progress of graduated students in self-employment and provide any needed support.
- To provide training support for the Youth Employability Project restaurant staff
- Supervise the day-day operations of the YTEP-Bendula restaurant
- Carry out specific tasks as may be assigned by the Project Coordinator
