Department: Operation

Job Summary: responsible for overseeing all mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring that plant machinery and equipment operate efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime.

Reports To: Operation Manager

Location: Gambia Milling Corporation Ltd (Banjul) or any location own or control by GMC

Primary

Ø  To collaborate with the operation manager in coordinating and supervising mechanical and structural projects

Ø   Record all mechanical files including history of each machine as well as maintenance files

Ø  Ensure all equipment is maintained and kept in a good and safe working condition and report any technical or mechanical problem to the operation manager without delay

Ø  To follow and update Silo survey data of Silos both in the mill and Silo land

Ø  Plan preventive maintenance with the Scheduler/planner and to ensure routine maintenance on all mechanical equipment

Ø  To take a leading role within the team of mechanics in implementing safety procedures during work such as LOTO, Hot work permit, Confined space

Ø  To attend and take a leading role during daily and weekly meetings with other team members or chiefs in the department

Ø  Troubleshoot mechanical problems/ analyze and suggest new areas of improvement for all mechanical problems

Ø  Make periodic visits to the store to ensure availability of key spares part are available at all time and send requests if necessary (define the re-order point)

Ø  Work in collaboration with the chief electrician to report all automation related problems to the line manager and endeavor to ensure all automation related problems are handled and solved in a professional manner

Ø  To make sure mechanical tools are regularly cleaned and kept in a safe place after work

Ø  Report on any equipment failures or mechanical issues to the Operations Manager.

Secondary

Ø  Assure the employer, the wiliness to listen and to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities

Ø  Respect annual leave application and processing procedure for the mechanics and to ensure leave is taken where and when appropriate

Ø  Work with the line manager, Chief Electrician and head miller to effectively plan shift rotation for the team

Duties & Responsibilities

Need

  • Proven work experience Industrial mechanic
  • Familiarity with tools needed for the execution of the job and CMMS
  • High degree of multi-tasking and time management capability
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) during work
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft office

Working conditions

  • Exposure to sheltered and unsheltered weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moving trucks, loading and unloading activities
  • Exposure to electricity and dust related activities
  • Exposure to machines related to sound during and after work
  • Exposure to falling objects

 Health & Safety

  • Follow up the Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Observe and correct unsafe acts of staff and third-party contractors.
  • All activities during and after work shall aim for zero accidents.
  • Be safety conscious when applying tools and instruments during work
  • After work, pack all tools and instruments and put them in a safe place

Minimum knowledge and experience:

Education/Training :    Mechanical Engineer

Primary Leaving Certificate only.

Primary Leaving Certificate plus technical/special skill

WASC/OL only

WASC/OL plus technical/special skill training

HSC/AL/OND

HND, First Degree or professional qualification only

HND/First Degree plus professional qualification

Working Experience:

Less than 1 year
