Alliance Française de Banjul is hiring a communication and audiovisual projects officer.
Alliance Française de Banjul (AFB) is a linguistic and cultural center dedicated to intercultural events, education, innovation, and creativity. Serving the Gambian community, AFB offers courses and activities in French and local languages, while supporting local and Francophone arts and culture. Founded in 1948, it is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in The Gambia, recognized for its commitment to quality education and its support for culture & creation.
The Alliance Française de Banjul works to:
- Promote the French language, and provide courses and internationally recognized exams (DELF/DALF)
- Promote and support French culture and Francophonie through our spaces, which include an outdoor theatre, incubator, library, and conference room
- Promote and support Gambian culture and artists
- Foster access to public reading and encourage curiosity and debate within our library
- Encourage intercultural exchange, curiosity, dialogue and entrepreneurship
Missions of the Communication Officer
Under the responsibility of the director of AFB and in coordination with various departments (Courses, Incubator, Culture, Library, Campus France & partnerships with schools), the Communication Officer plans, coordinates, and implements all communication actions. He/She will work closely with colleagues in cultural programming, library services, Campus France & Francophonie, as well as a technical and teaching team of about twenty people.
Indicative time split: Approximately 70% communication, content & social media / 20% event coverage & support / 10% technical website management (updates, SEO, occasional HTML). This split is indicative and may be adjusted according to the needs & activities of the Alliance, as events & cultural activities are concentrated from november to june.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy: Define, organize and implement the communication strategy for AFB, in agreement with management guidelines
- Visibility: Increase the organization’s visibility through this strategy
- Content Creation: Design and distribute all promotional materials (visuals, videos, interviews, leaflets, posters, etc.) while respecting the brand identity of the Alliance
- Social Media: Manage and develop social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok), including the editorial calendar and daily posts as per the Alliance’s events, course sessions and exams.
- Digital (~10-15% of time): Update and optimize the website (WordPress), including SEO, content updates and news, and occasional simple HTML edits
- Public Relations: Manage press relations and maintain contact lists/newsletters (Email, WhatsApp) up to date
- Audiovisual & Events: Manage the monthly cinema night, and assist with cultural and education missions such as artist residencies, panel moderation and event management
Potential Evolution
Depending on the candidate’s profile and involvement, this role may evolve toward broader responsibilities in coordination, including programming, partnerships, and event moderation. A formal check-in on the scope of the role will take place at 6 months, ahead of the end-of-probation review.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications preferred (or Marketing/Journalism)
- Languages: Mandatory proficiency in French and/or English; knowledge of a local language is an asset
- Skills: Strong writing skills and proficiency in graphic design/video tools (Canva, CapCut or other editing software) and WordPress
- Soft Skills: Proactive and solutions-driven, with a strong ability to put forward ideas and innovative suggestions. Creativity, teamwork, autonomy, flexibility, punctuality, rigor and a strong sense of organization & planning.
- Experience: Previous experience within an Alliance Française or an international cultural/educational institution is much appreciated.
Contract details
-One year local contract, starting from Mid-September (renewable upon assessment).
– Date of start to be confirmed based on the interview and date of signature of the contract.
Schedule :
– Full-time (40h/week), Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM, including a 1-hour lunch break.
– Occasional evening and Saturday flexibility to cover events; these hours are compensated through time off, in order not to execute more than 40Hrs a week
– 25 days annual leave (5 weeks)
Salary : Depending on candidate profile and experience, based on Gambian salary scales (Currency: Dalasi/GMD). SSHFC affiliation included.
