We are looking for a professional with an extensive and proven management and leadership experience, with a good knowledge of the energy and water sectors. The ideal candidate must demonstrate proven ability to operate independently and exercise significant latitude for independent judgement, discretion and action. The position of Deputy Managing Director role in a critical national institution like NAWEC requires a self-starter who is proactive, shows initiative, displays high level of motivation and assumes responsibility for the overall performance of the organization.

Role Summary

The Deputy Managing Director (DMD) will assist the Managing Director in overseeing and managing the operations of the National Water and Electricity Company. The DMD will be responsible for implementing company policies, developing strategies to enhance operational efficiency, and ensuring the company meets its financial and operational goals. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and industry-specific management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Operational Leadership: Support the Managing Director in the day-to-day management of the company, ensuring smooth operations in both electricity and water services.

· Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and implementation of business strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.

· Financial Management: Assist in the preparation and management of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports. Ensure financial targets are met and resources are allocated efficiently.

· Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop departmental managers and staff to enhance performance and productivity. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

· Performance Monitoring: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate company performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.

· Stakeholder Management: Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, clients, partners, and suppliers.

· Compliance and Governance: Ensure the company complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in both the electrical and water sectors.

· Project Management: Oversee major projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Any other relevant function assigned by the Managing Director.

Requirements and Qualifications

·  Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, Management, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).

·  A Masters’ Degree will be an added advantage

·  Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior management role within the electrical or water sector.

Competency: Detail

Analytical & Critical Thinking: Exercise sound judgment and engage in high-impact decision-making in number of areas and analyze situations and view the implications of all decisions on the performance of the company.

Organisation: In-depth knowledge of the power utility industry, including operations, regulations, and emerging technologies.

Problem Solving: The ability to identify root causes of challenges and develop effective solutions. And the skilled in both short-term troubleshooting and long-term problem resolution, especially given the technical and regulatory complexities of the power and water sector.

Time: Be very conscious of timelines and maintain constant self-improvement by staying up to date with developments in the company and the energy water subsector.

Communication Skills: Maintain strong interpersonal relations with management and communicate systematically with all relevant stakeholders

Team Player: Ability to work effectively on your own as well as in a team, and to be able to make the best out of a team
Confidentiality Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain discretion at all times.
