Project Information: This Early Market Engagement (EME) relates to Component 2A: West Coast Beaches (Fajara–Senegambia) Beach Nourishment Works under the Tourism Diversification and Resilience in The Gambia Project. Through this engagement, the project team seeks to inform the market and obtain feedback from experienced dredging and coastal construction contractors regarding the proposed works and execution considerations.

Project Objective: Infrastructure support for the diversification and resilience of the tourism sector.

Project Overview – The West Coast Beaches project involves a major beach nourishment and dune restoration program along approximately 4.5 km of shoreline between Fajara and Senegambia on The Gambia’s Atlantic coast. The proposed works will include offshore dredging and hydraulic placement of approximately 2.2 million cubic meters of sand along the project shoreline, together with dune creation using a portion of the dredged material to strengthen natural coastal defenses. Potential offshore sand sources have been identified through recent geophysical investigations near the mouth of the River Gambia. Detailed engineering designs for the project are currently in the final stages of completion, with procurement of the works expected to commence shortly. Works are expected to commence early 2027.

Participation – This engagement is open to experienced international and regional contractors with demonstrated expertise in large-scale beach nourishment projects and offshore dredging operations for sand extraction.
