SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia is a non-governmental social development organisation that has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s needs and concerns since 1982. Focussing its work on children without parental care and children in families in difficult circumstances, the organisation has a wide range of programmes, which include: Children’s Villages, Youth Facilities, Family & Community Strengthening Programmes, Kindergartens, Schools, a Mother and Child Clinic, Vocational Training Centres, a Youth Empowerment project, a Monetizing Waste Project and a Gender Equality project.

SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia is looking for suitably qualified candidate for the position of a Fund Development and Communications (FDC) Manager

Position summary:

The FDC Manager is responsible for significantly increasing and diversifying the financial resources available to SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia in order to cover all or part of its operating costs and investments as defined in the national budget, from private donors (individuals, companies and foundations), institutional partners (with bilateral and multilateral donors) and the Government (monetary and non-monetary government contributions).

The National FDC Manager works closely with all project heads within The Gambia under the direct supervision of the National Director to build an effective national FDC function

General aim of the position
Effectively manages the FDC department to increase funding and sponsorship opportunities by providing strategic direction, which includes the following areas:
Corporate fundraising (donations, joint marketing activities, donations in kind)
Individual fundraising (sporadic and recurring donations via direct mail, online marketing, face-to-face, digital, telemarketing, legacies, etc.)
Local and international sponsorships
Development of institutional and government partnerships (Public Private Partnership)
Development of persuasive grant proposals and fundraising materials.
Marketing and communications
Data management and analysis
Strategic planning; Monitoring and Evaluation

Qualifications/Competencies required:
A degree in the field of International Cooperation/Development, Social Sciences (Sociology, Development studies, Economics or related field), Business Administration, Marketing or related field, preference for post-graduate qualifications.
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a communications and/or fundraising manager, and/or institutional partnership manager, and/or marketing manager.
Excellent understanding of the funding environment, donor regulations and international development cooperation policies, and grant management.
Good understanding of project management (project cycle management, logical framework approach, results-based management).
Proven experience in building and maintaining effective donor relationships, identifying funding opportunities, developing and securing donor contracts and reporting on implementation.
Managerial and capacity building skills and experience, training, workshop facilitation.
Basic financial management skills, including budget preparation and monitoring.
Good command of the Office package.
Experience in writing periodic reports.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English (preferred).
Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in case of emergency.
Ability to work in a team.
