Applications are invited from suitably qualified Gambians to fill the under mentioned vacant positions at the Secretariat of The Medical and Dental Council:
JOB TITLE: INSPECTION AND MONITORING OFFICER
JOB PURPOSE:
The position holder will be responsible for performing on-site inspection and monitoring of the practice and conduct of medical and dental practitioners at health facilities, conduct investigations, ensure practitioner’s compliance with the MDPA 1988, regulation, codes of Conduct and Medical Ethics 2011 and management protocols and other relevant regulatory obligations.
A KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Council to ensure that all registered and licensed medical and dental practitioners are operating within the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Act 1988 and Council’s Codes of Conduct and Medical Ethics 2011.
- Inspect and monitor operations and activities of registered practitioners at least once a year and submit reports to the Registrar through the Deputy Registrar.
- Ensure that all practicing practitioners have a valid license to practice medicine or dentistry in the country.
- Review Medical records, and other documents to ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and other relevant protocols.
- Write clear, concise and comprehensive inspection reports, suggest areas of good practice and where appropriate, propose recommendations to improve services and inform policy decisions by Council.
- Coordinate all aspects of inspection and monitoring and ensure that reports are of the required quality.
- Initiate investigation of complaints against practitioners and make recommendations to Council.
- Coordinate the inspection and accreditation of Training Institutions.
- Facilitate the enforcement of the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Act 1988 and Codes of Conduct and Medical Ethics 2011.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of the work.
- Any other duties assigned.
B QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree in clinical medicine/ Pharmacy/ Nursing or equivalent qualification-in any other Health Care Related Field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.

- Must have a high level of professional maturity, honesty and integrity
- Able to write comprehensive and analytical reports,
- Must be an effective communicator with a good command of the English Language,
- Must possess effective investigative skills,
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to remain firm, fair and resolute
- Must be proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel); scheduling appointments/updating calendars,
- Must have knowledge and ability to operate basic office equipment such as printers, scanners,
- Must have good interpersonal skills and organization skills
