Background:
The National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) is a semiautonomous government institution operating
under the Office of the Vice President. It holds the mandate to coordinate all nutrition and
nutritionrelated activities across the country.
The Agency’s overarching mission is to improve the nutritional status of the Gambian population, thereby reducing malnutrition, morbidity, and mortality, with particular emphasis on vulnerable groups such as pregnant and lactating women and children under five years of age. In fulfilling this mandate, NaNA seeks to enhance national productivity and contribute to socioeconomic development, while positioning itself as a viable and sustainable Centre of Excellence in nutrition policy formulation, research, capacity building, and public health nutrition planning and programming within the West African subregion.
The National Nutrition Agency wishes to hire the services of Nutrition Field Officers to work as the Agency’s representatives in URR and WCR.
Objective:
The objective is to hire two (2) Nutrition Field Officers who will take up the task of representing the Agency and coordinating the implementation and monitoring of programmes in the regions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Summary
The NFO will be deployed at a Health Administrative Region, as part of the Regional Health Team (RHT).
The post holders will be generally responsible for the following:
i. Supervising the conduct of the bi-annual nutrition surveillance program and submitting report
ii. Supervising the implementation of BFCI in communities within the region
iii. Supervising the implementation of BFHI in health facilities within the region
iv. Supervising the implementation of the IMAM Program
v. Supervising the implementation of the Micronutrient Deficiency Control Programme within the region
vi. Organising and supervising active screening in both BFCI and non BFCI communities
vii. Conducting social and behavioural change communication sessions in the BFCI and PHC communities
viii. Conducting refresher training for VSGs and annual updating of VSG data base
ix. Conducting in-service training for health workers on basic nutrition and other nutrition
activities
x. Participating in Reproductive and Child Health clinics whenever necessary
xi. Conducting social and behavioural change communication sessions at the health training
institutions in the region
xii. Participating in CHN monthly in-service meetings and share information
xiii. Collaborating with other sectors at regional level
xiv. Writing quarterly activity report Qualifications, Experience and Person Specifications
The post holder must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Food science, Nutrition, Public Health or a related field with at least 3-years work experience.
The following person specifications shall also be required:
i. Good communication skills;
ii. High levels of integrity and honesty;
iii. Ability to speak at least 2 local languages
iv. Adequate computer literacy;
v. Good interpersonal relationship skills.
