Coast Region, The Gambia is a multipurpose agri-business company with over 30 years of experience in
horticulture value chain activities.

Shelter for Life International (SFL) Headquartered in Minnesota, USA is an international relief and
development organization with over 40 years of experience in providing sustainable development and
humanitarian assistance in developing countries around the world.
Invites eligible bidders for the supply, delivery and installation of two solar powered cold storage
systems.
Project background:
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS), through its Food for Progress (FFPr) program, awarded Shelter for life a five year (2023-2028), horticulture value chain project, Climate Resilient Optimization for Productivity in Horticulture (CROP-H) in The Gambia.
The project Strategic objectives are 1) To increase agricultural productivity in horticulture products while
promoting resilient agriculture technologies and techniques and 2) To expand the trade of agricultural
products (domestically, regionally and internationally) through improvements in trade enabling environment.
As part of these efforts, the CROP-H project will establish two solar powered cold storage units at
Kembujeh, West Coast Region and Old Jeshwang, Greater Banjul Area to support horticultural products.
Purpose:
The purpose of this procurement is to identify and contract qualified suppliers for the supply, delivery
and installation of two solar powered cold storage facilities that will reduce post-harvest losses and
preserve the quality of products, preferably those products that are intended for export to US markets.
These cold storage units will facilitate reliable supply, storage and handling, and facilitate compliance
with international and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for horticultural products,
primarily destined for processing and export to the United States. This initiative aims to improve market
access for horticultural products of smallholder farmers and promote sustainable, market driven post-
harvest infrastructure management in The Gambia
Overall Objective:
The overall objective of this procurement is to obtain high-quality goods from qualified suppliers through a fair, transparent and competitive bidding process that ensures value for money and compliance with Shelter for life International’s procurement policies.
