We are looking for a dynamic, forward-looking and performance driven professional. The technical expert’s role encompasses designing, overseeing, and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of water and wastewater systems, including water treatment, distribution, and wastewater collection and treatment. The prospective candidate is expected to be a self-starter and provide the necessary leadership within NAWEC’s water and sewerage business unit.

Job Description

Position One Year Contract Appointment – Technical Expert for the Water and Sewerage Business Unit of NAWEC

Role Summary The Technical expert will be a key member of our broader Leadership Team who will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering efficient, effective, and customer focused water and sewer services. From overseeing operations and maintenance to driving strategic infrastructure planning. His/her leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of water and wastewater management within the Gambia.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Managing Director and interacts with all NAWEC Functional Divisions and relevant Government Departments

Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide leadership and management to the Water & Sewer group through: Mentoring, support and development of the Managers and team leaders within the Group.

  • Monitoring and managing the teams’ performance within the Group.
  • Leading the group to achieve Water & Sewer objectives

· Developing long-term infrastructure and financial strategies to support sustainable water and wastewater services, and the development of new infrastructure, including adequate provision for increasing demand associated with future projected growth and asset renewals.

· Design and deliver integrated, customer-focused policies and services including water and sewer construction, procurement support, contract management, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater assets.

· Ensuring all water and wastewater facilities are operated, repaired, and maintained efficiently and effectively

· Foster stakeholder relationships with key stakeholders to deliver innovative and customer-focused solutions whilst Providing specialist, authoritative and consultative advice on complex water and sewer matters.

· Ensuring all staff have clearly defined responsibilities, objectives and performance criteria applicable to their positions.

· Guide the assessment into the long-term human resource capacity, identifying technical and leadership needs and developing solutions to mediate organizational gaps.

· Provide guidance in enhancing the WSBU teams’ proactiveness in identifying issues before they turn into complex problems.

· Implementing and managing individual performance that flows from organizational goals and priorities

Requirements and Qualifications

· Must have a master’s degree in engineering, environmental science or associated discipline and extensive work experience relevant to the role.

· 10 years post-graduate Water industry experience with at least 5 years in a Senior Position in a company of similar scale and complexity to NAWEC.

· Leadership qualifications and/or training are desirable.

· Project Management qualifications and/or training are desirable
