Three reasons you should stop wasting your time applying for the same job

By Ousman Seckan

It’s common in the Gambia for someone to apply for a job vacancy multiple times without any success. While you need not to relent in applying for your dream job, there is a limit to incessant application of a particular job. Besides, you may wonder what has gone wrong for not getting the job offer or even a call for interview. Well, the answer isn’t farfetched as it’s no rocket science to pinpoint what actually is responsible for your inability to secure a job after successively submitting your applications. In this article, I have discussed three reasons you should stop wasting your time applying for the same job.

1. If you don’t meet the educational requirements

In as much as you want to get a particular job, you must get the educational requirements clearly spelt out in the advertisement. The perception ‘just drop my CV for any job anywhere, just try my luck’ is not an ideal approach to job searching, yet many job seekers in the Gambia do this. Remember doing the same thing wrongly will not lead to positive results. No matter how many times you try, it won’t work! If you know that you have applied for a particular job several times without success, stop applying for it to save your energy and resources given that hiring managers do not compromise these requirements as they strive on regular basis to build a competent workforce.

Well, if you’re that type of Gambian who says this is the only job I want to do, then my advice to you is go get  the  required education, no matter how hard or long it will take  you. This will eventually avert the rejection of your application.

2. If you don’t have the required work experience

Employers are looking for candidates who have requisite work experience to do the job. This is because on-the-job training for new employees is often expensive and time-consuming. It is for this reason many recruiters want to hire people who already have experience on the job. This will ensure a continuation of service delivery without a breakdown. Employers, therefore, expect new employees to get the required work experience to keep operation running smoothly. As such, if you don’t have the needed experience, your chance of getting the job would be very slim.

Moreover, it’s better to stop applying for that job and search for a job that matches your experience. The fact is that you can’t be wasting your time on applying for a job you have no requisite work experience. Time is quite precious, so explore other job offers!

3. If you lack the required skill sets

The skill sets for certain jobs are often times stated in the job adverts. It is important to review these skill sets to ensure that you have them before submitting your application. Applying for a job that you know you are not qualified for is a waste of time in most cases because a hiring manager wouldn’t waive that for you. No matter how urgent you want to secure the job, you shouldn’t turn a blind eye to the skills recruiters expect you to possess. Unfortunately, there are many Gambians who cannot relate to the failures of their job applications.
