Background
The Government of The Gambia in collaboration with The World Bank developed the Tourism Diversification and Resilience in The Gambia Project (TDRGP) which is supported by an IDA Investment Project Financing (IPF) and will be executed in five years with the objective of strengthening sustainable tourism by supporting the enabling environment, building capacity, promoting access to finance for tourism related Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and strengthening sustainable coastal infrastructure. The project aims to contribute to economic growth and employment generation by enhancing selected tourism destinations in The Gambia by improving the sector’s enabling environment, increasing the participation and value addition of tourism related MSMEs, and developing sector resilience with the restoration, upgrading, and preservation of critical tourism assets as well as product diversification.
The Government of The Gambia has selected the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTC) to house the Project Implementation Unit (PIU). The positions within this PIU will carry out the implementation of the project.
The Administrative Assistant (Technical) position below will be filled to facilitate the implementation of the Project.
Administrative Assistant (Technical):
Objective
The objective of the position is to support the PIU in all technical matters to facilitate the smooth running of the Unit.
The Role of the Admin Assistant (Technical)
He/she shall support the PIU in all the technical aspects relating to the implementation of project activities with a view to ensuring an efficient and effective operation of the PIU. The Admin Assistant (Technical) will report directly to the Project Director.
The specific tasks of the Admin Assistant (Technical) are identified below:
- Prepare briefing reports, presentation materials and background notes on project related activities and issues for records of meetings, missions, and other project engagement events.
- Assist staff in the preparation and conduct of field visits to various project sites.
- Provide administrative support for the two technical components of the project 1) Tourism Competitiveness (Policy Framework & MSME Participation) and and 2) Infrastructure Support
- Assist staff in compilation of technical reports such as quarterly, annual, site visit and workshops.
- Provide support during data collection, entry, and cleaning with guidance from the M&E Specialist and in close collaboration with other specialists.
- Assist in the collection and compilation of communication related information for stakeholder engagement.
- Provide assistance during the organisation and implementation of technical activities such as workshops, community engagement, trainings etc.
- Assist staff with guidance from the M&E Specialist in carrying out basic descriptive analysis of data for planning and quality implementation of activities.
- Provide support in the continual updating of the M&E system.
- Provide support in the preparation of work plans (monthly, quarterly, and annual) and associated budgets for planned activities.
- Carry out any other duties/functions as may reasonably be required by the Project Director.
Qualifications and Experience
- The Admin Assistant (Technical) must have at least a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Development Studies, Economics, Statistics or any other related field.
- Has a Minimum of two (2) years professional experience in a similar position.
- Certified training in information technology covering word processing, spreadsheets and PowerPoint.
- Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, data analysis as well as experience in updating database or management information system.
- Proven competencies in organisational skills, time management and teamwork.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with adequate ability to use social media handles.

Duration and location of services
The Admin Assistant (technical) will be appointed for a period of one year subject to renewal based on satisfactory performance. The post holder will be stationed at the PIU-MoTAC with possibility of periodic field visits to project sites.
