SOS Children’s Villages in The Gambia is looking for a suitably qualified candidate for the position of an English Language/Literature Teacher at the SOS Lower & Upper Basic School, Bakoteh, and the HGTSSS (High School)

Position summary:
The English Language/Literature Teacher is responsible for teaching English Language and Literature to students at the Lower and Upper Basic levels. The role involves preparing and delivering engaging lessons, evaluating student progress, and maintaining accurate academic records. The teacher will be responsible for the academic and moral well-being of the children in his/her class during the school day and will support the Principal and Vice-Principal in all matters of discipline.

The English Language/Literature Teacher reports to the Principal.

General aim of the position

To teach English Language and Literature in accordance with the school curriculum.

To be responsible for the academic and moral well-being of the children in his/her class during the school day.

To prepare teaching materials, lessons, and maintain school records including class registers, forecasts, notes of lessons, schemes of work, and report cards.

To regularly evaluate and mark all students’ class work, homework, tests, and assignments.

To support and assist the Principal in all matters of discipline.

To supervise children during lunch and general cleaning of the classroom and immediate environment.

To attend PTA and reporting sessions.

To carry out special duties as assigned by the Principal/immediate supervisor.

Qualifications/Competencies required:

A trained and suitably qualified teacher (TC / PTC) with a specialisation in English Language/Literature.

Total commitment, dedication, and allegiance to the SOS school and students.

A positive approach to work and a willingness to carry out extra-curricular duties.

Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.

Strong classroom management and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team under the direction of the Principal and senior staff.
