The Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) is a charity established in 2015 with a mission to improve human health and save lives in Africa by growing a cohort of African researchers working in Africa, who lead and partner excellent, collaborative health research that benefits patients, populations, policy makers and practitioners throughout the region and globally. For further information on AREF, please visit https://www.africaresearchexcellencefund.org.uk.  AREF is looking for a suitable person to occupy the position of Financial Accountant (Reporting & Budget Support).

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Senior Finance Manager in financial reporting, budgeting, accounting operations, and board reporting by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial information. S/he will play a key part in maintaining strong financial controls, producing analysis, and supporting decision-making.

Essential requirements: 

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field.
• 3–6 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting.
• Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliations

Desirable: 

• Working in a charity.
• Professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA) – part-qualified or in progress preferred.

The post-holder will be based in The Gambia at the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Fajara.

An attractive salary commensurate with qualification and experience will be paid. 

The appointment will be up to 29th June 2029 initially and subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
